Our wonderful landlord celebrated her birthday on the beach and we had a FEAST. Warning: This blog post (like any Samoan party) is NOT vegan friendly! We headed way out east, past Two Dollar Beach to Amouli, where there are some beach fales and some great sand.
The reef here is rather close to shore and the waves can be a bit rough, the conditions weren't right for Noah to swim, but we had a great day anyway. We strolled the beach, mingled, ate and ate some more.
The cooks showed up early to start roasting the pig. In Samoa no party is complete without a "size 2", I had no idea what that meant for the first few parties I went to. Size 2 just refers to a whole pig, specifically a rather young pig as the number indicates the size. Noah got the first bites of the pig while it was still on the spit. Once done it was laid out on some banana leaves (that hind leg was already in Noah's belly. Side Note: A few days later I was reading Noah a bedtime story and there happened to be a picture of a pig, to which he pointed and said "Pig! He's really yummy!"
There turned out to be two roasted pigs, a ton of BBQ chicken, hot dog and shrimp shish kebobs, local fish and some local clams.
We had a great day relaxing and eating as a family.
